Still, it would be interesting to see in World of Warships. Basically, for the cost of repairing and converting her into an Aircraft carrier they could build 2 brand new fleet-carriers instead. Normandie was eventually raised and although there had been talk of converting her into an aircraft carrier, repairs were deemed too costly and she was towed for scrap. She was undergoing the process of being converted to a troopship when she caught on fire and capsized in 1942. Normandie was seized by America in 1941 after the fall of France and was renamed USS Lafayatte. Since Normandie there have been bigger and faster Ocean-Liners and Cruiser ships but none have boasted more powerful turbo-electric steam turbines, that record she still holds. Normandie was built in 1935 and at the time she was the largest floating object in the world and the fastest Liner afloat.
One such Liner was France's SS Normandie. During WWII there were several Ocean-Liners that were converted, or had been considered for conversion, to aircraft carriers. As a Child I was very much interested in Ocean-Liners, times changed and my interests swung over to Lake-freigters and mid 20th century warships.
